This past weekend, the Libertarian Party chose its nominee. They Chose 2012 nominee and New Mexico Governor, Gary Johnson. I am not happy.
Gary Johnson is the equivalent of a Hillary Clinton. He is the establishment candidate in what is supposed to be the anti-establishment party. He’s not a true Libertarian. He’s not familiar with the great thinkers, authors and pioneers of the movement. He lacks almost all knowledge of the core fundamentals of the libertarian philosophy. In other words, he’s a hack!
I was never interested in the Libertarian party because I believe it is the same as all political parties; prone to corruption, compromising and boredom. It tries too much to pander to the mainstream media as to not seem “scary” or “radical”. At the end of the day, it has the same problems the GOP or the Democrats have. I am not a fan of the system. I am not a fan of Playing their game and pandering to the establishment, and I am not a believer in democracy as some great noble savior of humanity. It’s not. It has proven time and time again to disappoint us, yet for some reason, every four years we all get amnesia, or our minds get erased by one of those men and black devices, and we think voting matters, and that things could actually change. It doesn’t and they don’t.
But, for now, this is what we have. This is what has happened this year. This is what we have to deal with, and it is not good. The political process needs to change, and people need to wake up. Otherwise, the libertarian movement is toast!
Speaking of toast, watching Gary Johnson is a more boring than watching your toaster toast bread. Obviously, the LP doesn’t see him that way, and they think he stands some kind of chance. Either that or there’s some kind of deep conspiracy to tarnish the libertarian name by putting up your weird uncle, Gary. Who know’s, we’ll never really know. But, taking it for what it is at face value it seems as if they most likely see Gary Johnson as being “safe,” someone that the media and political establishment see as non-threatening. This is the problem. The party chooses to water down, pander and compromise the message, and that, I just can not stand.
Libertarians aren’t supposed to be safe. We’re supposed to be what we are. As Tom Woods proclaimed in his rousing speech at the convention ” We shouldn’t try to be a little like Republicans and a little like Democrats, we should just be libertarians and let the chips fall where they may!”
This is not Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson says libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Ok, sure, maybe some of them are, but this is NOT the defining quality of a libertarian.
A true libertarian is someone that believes in the moral principles of individual freedom and liberty. Someone that understands that the true nature of life is the primacy of the individual over any other group, including the state authority. A libertarian believes that everyone owns their mind, body and soul, and can do with it which they please as long as they are not causing harm to anyone else or infringing on anyone else’s rights to do the same. A libertarian believes in Spontaneous self-directed activity of free individuals, voluntary association, and free market exchange free from force and coercion. A true libertarian believes that every man woman and child has the god given right to protect themselves from the initiation of aggression by others, as the second amendment so beautifully laid out for us.
A true libertarian does not slumpishly stand on a debate stage and meander about shrugging his shoulders, and casually asserting that our way is simply better policy. After all, the democrats and republicans are just simply trying their best, and oh boy if only a guy like me, could get in there I’d show them that I have some better plans and then they would finally get it. No! No Gary Johnson, No!
You have a naive interpretation of the nature of the state.Maybe if you spent an hour or 2 reading One of the multitudes of works by Murray Rothbard, you would know the true nature of the state. You would know that the state is not a public service agency. It is not a patron for the good of humankind. It is not a group of benevolent angels sent here from the heavens above to help us. The state is a gang Gary Johnson, and the authority that it claims over us, the “citizens” of its outdoor factory farm called a nation is illegitimate and immoral!
So, this is the problem with Gary Johnson. He is not the rabble-rousing fire starter to inspire the masses by offering radically different ideas with a strong moral core to stand on. He has none of that. Hell, he said he would force a Jewish baker to bake a Nazi cake on a nationally televised debate. He doesn’t know who Ludwig von Mises, and Murray Rothbard are. I’d be surprised if he knew who Ayan Rand was. The point is this: Carpe mother fucking Diem! Seize the day folks! Seize the fucking day! Excuse my language but life is an emergency!
Things are happening now that are critical, and that can not be glazed over. Never has the moment been so ripe for a third party candidate to come in and captivate the nation. We needed fire and energy. We needed passion and intellect. We needed to seize the opportunity, and we didn’t. They passed us the ball, and as soon as we touched it, it deflated, and we dropped it.
Never has there ever been two candidates with an unfavorability rating as high as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The time is now! And what’s our answer to that; Gary “Boring, pragmatic, pandering, apologist LINO” Johnson. This is not a true representation of libertarian values. This is a time when people are going to be looking for an alternative option. They’re going to be paying attention to Libertarians now more so than ever before, and we did not send out our best man out there. Not at all. I mean, I would be a better candidate than Gary Johnson. You, reading this right now, could be a better candidate than Gary Johnson.
In a time like now, so ripe and ready for liberty to come smashing through the wall like the Kool-aide man on a hot summer day, we need an uncompromising, unapologetic, principled libertarian to scream from the top of his lungs “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!” or as The great economist Bob Murphy puts it – we need someone that says “give me liberty or give me death, not give me liberty or give me a check that is equivalent to the sum of Liberty”
Liberty is not a pragmatic equation. We do not believe in liberty simply because it’s more efficient. We believe in liberty because it’s the only real truth there is. Freedom & liberty is what we all have when we come to this world. We all live in a world of our own perception, looking out ay the world through our eyes with a mind of our own behind them. Every single human being on the planet knows this. We all want to be free.
Unfortunately, authoritarians are in control, and they dictate how much freedom we are allowed to have by constantly keeping a literal gun to our heads at all time. That is what is at stake here. The true libertarian wants to remove the gun, not lessen the gun, not point the gun at someone else. We want to abolish the gun!
The problem with Gary Johnson is that he is misrepresenting us true libertarians. He is giving our brand a bad name. We can’t afford to take that hit right now. We should’ve been riding a wave of momentum off of Ron Pauls 2012 campaign. Instead “our guys” were deflated, they compromised, played the game, pandered and watered down the message to try and appeal to the mainstream more. That’s not the way to do it!
If we are going to have a real go at this thing, we need to take our flag and firmly plant it in the ground and say “WE ARE LIBERTARIANS, AND THIS IS WHAT WE BELIEVE AND IF YOU DON’T AGREE, TOO BAD BECAUSE WE HAVE THE TRUTH AND MORALITY ON OUR SIDE! JOIN US OR DIE!”
(That’s not a threat of violence by the way.) It’s truth. The truth is, Join us or risk death by surrendering your life to the new world order, authoritarian power elite & the deep state. Willfully Limit your life by submitting yourself to servitude, having plutocrats tell you what to do, how to think, how to live, where to hate, where to fight, steal your hard earned money, spy on you 24/7, lock you in cages for non-violent “offenses” and more. This is a matter of life and death and the greatest matter of our time. It requires a passionate pleading to the masses to hear our call! Anything else is just more of the same thing.More of the same establishment hack crap. Gary Johnson is not a Libertarian. In my mind, you are either fully in, or you’re out, there’s no in between. There is no gray area. If you’re going to try, you have to go all the way. You must follow your libertarian principles to all of their logical conclusions. You must leave emotions out and any other bias that may interfere, and just “Let the chips fall where they may.”
It requires a passionate pleading to the masses to hear our call! Anything else is just more of the same thing.More of the same establishment hack crap. My life was forever changed when I heard a squeaky little voice scream up in a normal straight talk tone on the debate stage in 2012, and that was not Gary Johnson. That was Ron Paul. Everyone else was arguing about Should we have 30% or 35% and then all of a sudden Ron paul comes in and questions the entire philosophical idea of taxation. He says: “Taxation is theft!, abolish the IRS!, Audit the Federal reserve! – let everyone keep their money! – we’re spending trillions of dollars on these wars! ” I mean, wow! talk about distinguishing yourself from the crowd. That broke the matrix and shattered the paradigm. That is what we need, not some guy who like to go rock climbing and thinks that while politicians have good intentions they just can’t seem to get the job done. Now you tell me, who is a real Libertarian?
In my mind, you are either fully in, or you’re out, there’s no in between. There is no gray area. If you’re going to try, you have to go all the way. The only guys that seemed to do that were Daryl W. Perry, John McAfee, and Austin Peterson.
“If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery–isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.” ― Charles Bukowski,
The libertarian party deserves someone that like that.Someone that will go all the way and let the chips fall where they may!
That is the difference we need. that is the difference that matters. That is how far you have to go if you believe in what is right. No one does that in today’s political arena. The democrats and Republicans and even the green party and independents all sound the same. Now unfortunately with the nomination of Johnson, you can add libertarians to that mix of boring conformity as well. In reality, the only real difference between politicians is those who are authoritarians and those who are true libertarians. Those who believe in achieving a means to an end by force and those who believe in individual freedom and liberty. Right now, the presidential race is all authoritarians. We need a candidate who will question the nature of what government is and what it should and should not be doing for us.
To expound on this further, I’ll end with a quote by Murry Rothbard.
“There are only two ways that an economy can be organized. One is by freedom and voluntary choice the way of the market. The other is by force and dictation-the way of the state.
The problem with Gary Johnson is, he chooses the latter. I can not support that.
